What You Should to Know
A practice built for people navigating difficult work
Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an evidence-based yoga practice, rooted in 20+ years of research, created specifically for people who’ve experienced trauma or work in high-stress environments.

Unlike traditional yoga, it’s not about the ability to touch your toes or stay perfectly still. Instead, it’s about supporting the possibility of listening to your body within a no pressure format.

You might ground your body, notice your breath, and possibly choose to move or rest.

Offered seated or standing.

No need to perform.
Practice being present
Grounded with invitational language, you might find more than one way to be here right now.
Practice making choices
Centered on agency and choice, you’re welcome to participate on your own terms.
Practice moving forward
Connected to your body’s intelligence, you’re invited to define what wellness means for you.
No right or wrong.

From the Founder
“I’m not an expert on you, but I am a nurse with 15 years of experience who still need reminders to breathe. I understand what it feels like to carry stress in your body, and what it might take to find your way back.”

Experience has led me to teaching in hospitals, fire stations, training facilities, therapy offices, yoga studios, online and outdoors.
Certified in 2023, I recently had the honor of working on a University of Minnesota research study facilitating a co-created TCTSY practice.
In 2016 my practice began as a homework assignment for addressing self-care within my career. I never stopped.
We are all designed for success. Feel free to learn about my story HERE

"I have had the privilege of working with Marie for several years in a Children's Hospital where she serves as an operating room nurse. Her calm demeanor, positive energy and experience help bring focus to the room.

She also has led a group of neurosurgeons through a breathing and mindfulness exercise to help us cope with loss.

Marie is truly multi-talented and we are fortunate to work with her every day!"

Dan G, MD, MS
"Marie is a true professional who provided a great service to our teams.

We worked together offering a stress-relieving activity to St. Paul's Department of Safety and Inspections (DSI) + City Attorney's Office (CAO).

Folks really appreciated Marie's knowledge of on-the-road, in-office, and overall work stress relief wellness techniques."

Odell
"Marie creates a grounded, trauma-informed space where every body is welcome. It was a privilege to work alongside her on a TCTSY and Radical Healing study with the University of Minnesota.
Her calm presence and accessible approach made a meaningful impact on both participants and colleagues."

Bryana
"I am a nurse in the operating room and also help lead the Periop 101 RN orientation program for MHealth Fairview.

Marie provides us with an effective therapeutic exercise to help us work through the stresses of learning a whole new world in our careers while still balancing home life.

These skills can be implemented almost anywhere, at anytime making it truly accessible to even the busiest human and hope to continue to collaborate with Marie."

Jessie, RN
Questions We Hear Often
Before you wonder, we’ve been asked
Is TCTSY for me?
Maybe. Maybe not. Only you can answer that question for yourself.
TCTSY (Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga) is an evidence-based approach for trauma recovery developed by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, David Emerson, and Jenn Turner at the Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Grounded in hatha yoga, trauma theory, attachment theory, and neuroscience, TCTSY emphasizes choice, invitational language, interoception, non-coercion, and shared authentic experience. Rather than focusing on performance or achieving a particular outcome, the practice invites you to notice what you experience in your body and decide what feels right for you.

Mayday Yoga offers TCTSY as a wellness resource for the community... not as therapy, but as an everyday health practice.
Anyone managing work stress, grief, or difficult experiences is welcome to benefit from this practice.

If at any time you'd like a more personalized in-depth support, you might find more resources here.
Where do you offer your group classes?
Group classes are offered at the location that feels most accessible and comfortable for your group. You choose the meeting space, and I'll come to you.

Sessions can be held indoors or outdoors, in person or online. Whether you're gathering at a workplace, community center, private residence, studio, or another location, the goal is to create a familiar environment that supports comfort and choice.
If you're hosting an in-person session and have questions about liability, I can temporarily add your space to my yoga liability insurance coverage upon request.
Do I need a yoga mat?
No. This practice is designed to be accessible. Seated and standing options are offered, so there's no need for a yoga mat, workout clothes, or special equipment.

Meeting you where you are, off the mat.
What style of yoga do you teach?
In TCTSY, there is no emphasis on "style" or "doing it right" while making body-based choices.

Flexibility is not the point. Possibly listening to your body in the present moment is. Seated and standing options are always available.
All abilities, shapes, sizes, experience, and interest levels are more than welcome.
Do I need to share the reason behind my class request?
No. You're never required to explain your experience or share personal details to access services. You're welcome to share as much or as little as feels right for you.
How does one become a trauma-informed instructor?
There are many paths, so I can only speak to my own.

I completed my 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) training, followed by a 20-hour trauma-informed training through the Trauma Research Foundation. Before pursuing my additional 300hr TCTSY certification, I chose to pause and gain real-world teaching experience.

If you're interested in this path, I'll happily point you toward the training programs that helped shape my practice.
How do I get started?
You’re welcome to reach out through the contact page, or explore the services first, whichever feels right.
